MWANZA City which is the second largest city in Tanzania after Dar es Salaam, has recorded a positive development, putting on the path to become one of the fastest growing urban centres in sub-Saharan Africa. Situated on spectacular shores of Lake Victoria, Mwanza is endowed with a lot of opportunities, including easy accessibility owing to its good transport infrastructure on land, water and air.
Today, Mwanza is the fastest growing city and an East African business hub. The City is witnessing an economic boom, which is clearly noticeable by the huge and vast amounts of traffic that goes into the city every morning, and slowly leaves the city in the evening. Its strategic position links it in terms of business with five (5) countries that form the East African Community.
It serves such businesses as mining, manufacturing, fishing, agriculture, commerce, import and export as well as tourism, among others, hence provision of employment opportunities in that area. Further apart from neighbouring the other four countries that compose the East Africa Community, Mwanza also serves the Democratic Republic of Congo and is also the main business center for all regions composing the Lake Zone, i.e. Mara, Kagera, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Tabora and Kigoma.
The Mwanza City Council has a very optimistic plan for developing the infrastructures for the City’s further economic growth in order to tap the City’s potential to take it to a higher level. In last few years, the City has witnessed few drastic changes which are indicators of its development and potentiality of the City for further development.
